Off on the road to Morocco!

This last Fall trip was pretty epic. Really - eight weeks, 13 flights, four countries or so and a LOT of states. A long awaited return to the lush greenery of Ireland and friends that we haven't seen in a couple of decades, followed by a visit to parts of Northern Africa. By plane, taxi, train and camel we bounced around from Casablanca to Marakech to just shy of the border of Algeria. We learned the proper method to tie the much-needed turbans for wind and sand protection, when pictures are acceptable to snap, keeping calm at all costs regardless of how the cab driver navigates turns, vehicle traffic and pedestrians. That was a feat.

From Morocco we traveled to the incredible vistas and hospitality of the Azores. I think the landing itself in Sao Miguel left our jaws dropping, and it probably took much of the week we had there to hold them back in place. Our grasp of the Portuguese language is really nothing to instill pride, but locals and visitors alike all seemed to speak English and a multitude of other languages extremely well. No - it's not remotely like Spanish... does "obrigato" sound like "gracias?" Not really...

All of our connections to each destination went through Lisbon airport. Convenient? Absolutely. But by the fourth visit in less than a month we were sick of walking by the Throne of Sardines and corresponding gearworks ceiling art. Our last flight out of Lisbon brought us back state side to DC, where our road trip commenced! Soooo much catching up to do!

We have a slew of pictures that will be on here soon - just have to whittle the numbers down from the 6,000 mark. This is just the intro, so stay tuned!
